On Monday 22nd August, girls from Pryford CC and neighbouring clubs got the chance to take part in an International style fielding session with Lydia.
After a short introduction the girls got straight into having fun within their warm up. The fun didn’t stop there, with the girls breaking off into small groups to take part in a fielding circuit to test their skills, ranging from high catching on the boundary, sharp slip catching and perfecting throws for run outs. The players were hanging of Lydia’s every word when giving out her top tips with the session finishing with a fun competition.
It was great to see everyones competitive nature come out with each team wanting to come out on top. At the end of the competition everyone popped inside the club house where numerous questions were fired at the England legend, which she answered in great fashion!
All in all it was a fabulous afternoon in the sun, with girls going home with smiles on their faces and the next generation of England Women cricketers being inspired for life!”
We invited Lydia along to our club to help promote awareness of our expanding girls section. Around 60 girls attended.
Lydia provided us with a mixed fielding session and some batting tips for long power hitting and another for more accurate placement. After explaining and demonstrating all the drills she then spent time circulating amongst participants offering individual encouragement and advice. This was followed by a question and answer and then photo/autograph session.
The whole evening went perfectly and the girls were clearly inspired by her visit. Lydia’s friendly and sympathetic approach meant that all the girls, new players and those with some experience, were all able to draw inspiration from her.
As participation increases there is no doubt that having a visit from a former International player of Lydia’s stature and personality can only assist any club in inspiring the girls to greater levels of enjoyment and achievement.
I would strongly recommend a visit from Lydia to any school, club or organisation wishing to promote participation in sport and particularly cricket. We are already planning another visit for next season!
Lydia has run a number of sessions for the girls at South Wilts CC. She has been brilliant, working with grils from 8-14 and tailoring her training to always suit the skill levels. We’ve loved having Lydia as part of our set-up and look forward to continuing the relationship over the seasons to come.
Lydia ran a batting and fielding masterclass for our girls section at Earlswood CC. It was a brilliant session with many innovative drills and loads of learning and fun.
Our girls and parents are still talking about it being a standout evening. What is most memorable for me is Lydia staying afterwards and chatting to the girls and their parents – that epitomised the essence of club cricket.
We will of course be inviting Lydia back to Earlswood next year – with our girls that is non-negotiable!
Lydia is enthusiastic, professional and sublimely talented – It was a privilege to have her at our club
“Lydia Greenway delivered a fielding masterclass for our Academy squad on Sunday. It’s not always easy to make fielding fun in a draughty sports hall in December but the two hours flew by and the players were all smiling at the end because they had enjoyed themselves so much. The session was engaging, progressive and very dynamic and Lydia very quickly established an easy rapport with the players.”
The Academy has presented Ella with a professional, well organized opportunity to train and improve her skills in an inspiring and friendly environment working with proven high quality people.
This has been the best quality training Ella has received and we have noticed improvements in her game as a result. Ella has very much enjoyed taking part in the sessions.
Without a doubt this coaching has been by far and away the most useful. It’s also been hugely enjoyable for her. We’ve been so pleased with the winter training. Tilly has had consistency of coaching, with the coaches really getting to know her personally and advising her individually. The size of the groups and the quality/ability of the girls involved means she’s always stretching herself.
Importantly for us as parents has been the excellent feedback throughout. We always know what the plan is for the session, so she’s fully equipped, and we know what she’s working on and how she’s doing/what she’s got to work on harder. This shouldn’t be so remarkable but it really is! We’ve never felt so engaged with a coaching team. It’s surpassed expectations and has given Tilly a new level of confidence.
Lydia gave a fascinating talk, pitched at exactly the right level for our girls, and full of interesting detail, explanation, anecdotes and humour. Lydia captured the attention of the room and I am sure she instilled an interest in cricket. We were all delighted Lydia decided to come to Queens Gate to share her experiences and energy with our pupils.
What I love about Cricket for Girls is it is making cricket more accessible for females in England. It gives females a unique opportunity to have sessions delivered by female role models and experienced coaches.
Lydia has a vast amount of coaching experience which enables her to deliver quality skill specific sessions that caters for all ages and abilities.
Having worked with Lydia at the Tonbridge and Beckenham academy, you can clearly see the benefit of being involved in the programme. The insight gained from quality coaches in invaluable in taking your game to the next level.
