Upcycling/Re-Distributing Cricket Clothing & Equipment

  • Cricket is behind many other sports in regards to sustainability of kit and equipment, whether it be the manufacturer's practices, location or materials used. Additionally, the bulk of cricket clothing and equipment in the UK winds up in a cupboard or landfill, missing a huge opportunity to re-distribute unwanted items to those in need.

We have found a few resources that can help with domestic upcycling and redistribution of kit and equipment that we have provided below.

    1. Bat for a Chance - a charity that can provide collection services for clubs, teams and brands looking to donate unwanted items, as well as to help organisations find kit and equipment that is needed.

    2. Kidd3r - a web-based marketplace for selling or donating sports equipment to those who need it by linking seller/donator to the buyer/recipient. This eliminates donations winding up in landfill, and helps families find exactly what they need.

    3. Grassboots.club - combining a web-based marketplace with a fundraising aspect, Grassboots can facilitate upcycling/re-sale efforts within your club. They provide clubs with their own personalised marketplace for members to donate and buy preloved sportswear and equipment.

There are other organisations such as Lord's Taverners involved in upcycling, predominately for overseas donations. We will continue to review upcycling resources and post them as we vet them.
